More stuff!!

At right are some of the cool provisions and talismans given or loaned by well-wishers. Thanx all!

Dyl & Kris won't be back from 'Frisco till Tuesday night, so I'm going to try to leave Monday, after babysitting in the PM. Lots to do tomorrow, hook up and load, etc...then the Judy Collins/Nanci Griffith concert after dinner with Shan & John.

I hope that you have a reading light at night. While passing by Lowell, say hello to Jack K. He's buried there I think.
To post, I believe that you need a Blogger account or a Gmail acct.

Dad,

I collected local intel on biking around the Monterey portion of CA Route 1. The bike shop I visited said there is good, non-technical MT biking at Fort Ord. However, taking a road bike south of Carmel on CA-1 for much more than an hour becomes a dicey proposition, because of a lack of a shoulder and lack of a bike lane, over some high pucker-factor cliffs. This would be through the Big Sur region. I didn't drive it, so I can't corroborate. However, I did drive CA-1 From SF down to Carmel on the stretch known as the Cabrillo Highway, and most of it was two-lane with a breakdown/bike lane and adequate shoulder. I saw dozens of road bikers along the way. You'll go through a bunch of areas with nice coastal scenery, the surfer beach town of Santa Cruz, lettuce farms for dozens of miles and dead rural areas that look like they're out of a Clint Spaghetti Western.

Post your next mail address and I'll send a CA highway, biking and camping map and other local bike and tourism rags.
